Linda Martin ya había participado en las Finales irlandesas de 1976, 1977, 1978 y 1982 cuando pertenecía al conjunto Chips.
Nació el 17 de abril de 1947 e inició su carrera musical en 1969 en Belfast dentro del grupo Chips. En solitario, aparte de las veces que fue por Chips, se presentará cinco veces más al National Song Contest, para ir a Eurovisión, batiendo el récord entre todos los cantantes irlandeses en presentarse a dicha preselección. Con la canción de Johnny Logan, Terminal Three quedará segunda en Luxemburgo en 1984. Pero vencerá en Eurovisión en 1992 con otro tema de Logan, Why me?
Linda es actualmente una de las presentadoras más populares de la televisión irlandesa. Su programa The Lyrics Board fue todo un éxito de audiencia. También ha sido jurado de la primera, segunda y cuarta temporada del concurso de la RTE You're a star, plataforma de nuevos cantantes a estilo de Operación Triunfo en España.
También estuvo en el escenario del 50 Aniversario de Eurovisión en Copenhague en 2005, haciendo coros y cantando un trozo del tema con el que ganó en 1992. |

El 29 de marzo la televisión irlandesa organizó su final nacional desde el Opera House en Cork. El tema ganador fue elegido por los votos de 10 jurados regionales.
Linda Martin fue la cantante ganadora con "Why me?" pero no era la primera vez que fue a Eurovisión, ya que la primera vez lo hizo en 1984 y estuvo en la final de Irlanda en los años 1976,1977,1978 y en 1982 pero con el grupo Chips. En la final de 1992 se encontraba también Luv Bug que representó a Irlanda en 1986.
